I acquired this ring recently and have become very curious as to its value and possible history. It belong to my step-great grandmother who was Austrian, lived in America, and spent a lot of time in Europe and Mexico, so the origin of this ring is unknown. I have been told that it is a very European design. I assume that it is from the time period anywhere from the late 1800′s to early 1900′s. There are no kind of markings on the back. I have been also told that it is a rare color.
What can you establish from it?
Anything is helpful.

It is hard to know exactly what year the ring was made but it does look old. It is a very pretty ring. It is definitely a Native American made ring, and is not a European design. The stampwork around the stone, and the split shank are very typical in Native American Turquoise Rings. It could be very old or it could be not so old but with no markings on the back it is hard to tell when it was made. Usually most older rings (and many made now actually) have the jewelers stamp, or initials, along with sterling or .925. Your ring is most likely sterling silver, and if certain initials were on the back, that would possibly give you an idea of the year it was made.
But….even if you never know exactly when or where it’s from, you’ve got yourself a great ring…the color is awesome and has great matrix (the dark colors that run through the blue or green color) and the matrix makes the stone an interesting one. It is hard to know which turquoise mine it came from, and if it is indeed rare. You may take it to an expert in antique or estate jewelry to get more info, but other than that, hang onto that ring and enjoy wearing it!!!
